Do you have a minimum hire period?

  • Melbourne Cup Weekend Hire – Minimum 5 Days (Return Wednesday)
  • Easter Period – Minimum 6 Days
  • Christmas/New year Period – Minimum 2 Weeks

How am I charged?

We calculate the hire of a caravan or camper trailer on a daily calendar basis. That means that irrespective of what time it is picked up or returned the pickup day is counted as 1 day rental and the return day as 1 day rental.

Do I need electric brakes fitted to my car?

No. All of our vans are already fitted with electric brake systems for your convenience.

Are there any tow bar Requirements?

All vehicles towing must comply with industry towing capacity requirements and have a correctly rated tow bar fitted. The towing vehicle and tow bar must both have a towing rating that exceeds the ATM rating of the Caravan. The tow vehicle and tow bar must both have a maximum ball load Rating that exceeds the ball loading of the Caravan at any time. It is the responsibility of the hirer to always ensure that they do not ever exceed any of these ratings when they have the Caravan partly or fully loaded.

How much deposit is required to secure my booking?

20% of the total hire charge or a $200 deposit (whichever is greater) is required to secure your booking. Bookings will not be finalised until the deposit has been paid and processed. Balance of all hire charges are due 28 days prior to travel or 42 days for Easter and Christmas/New year bookings.

Do I have to pay a bond?

Yes, you have to pay it. Yes, you will get it back – after we have ensured that the caravan or camper trailer is returned in the same condition it was in when you hired it.

Do I need tow mirrors?

To be compliant with Australian law, anyone towing a caravan must be able to see 20 metres behind them and four metres either side of the towed outfit. In order to meet this requirement, almost all vehicles will need additional towing mirrors. These are available for hire.

What if my vehicle cant tow?

We can deliver and pickup almost anywhere in Victoria and can provide you with an additional quote for this service. (Conditions apply)

Can I bring my pet?

Pets will be considered. Please discuss PRIOR to Hire.
Additional Cleaning Fees may apply.

Do I have to refill the gas bottles before I return the van?

No, not unless you have completely emptied the bottle. In that case please do not ‘swap n go’ our gas bottles. Have them refilled or alternatively we can refill the bottles here onsite upon your return.

What if I want to extend my hire?

Please contact us immediately. If the van you have is not booked – we will be happy to extend your stay. Payment arrangements will need to be made.

Can I take the caravan off road?

No. All of our caravans are to be driven on bitumen roads, however, some well-made dirt roads are acceptable. Keep speed below 60km/h to avoid costly stone damage to front of van.

Strictly NO corrugated roads or 4WD tracks. A common sense approach should be taken to ensure no damage to the van so that your security bond is refunded.

*Johnno’s camper trailers may be taken off road

Are there any hidden extras?

Our hire rates include all administration Fees, GST and Caravan Insurance charges. If paying by credit or debit card (Visa, MasterCard or American Express) however, a 1.3% surcharge will apply. In the event of an incident, the insurance excess is $1,000.

All Sundowner caravans may be taken Australia wide.

Is insurance included in the hire rate?

Yes. All Utow caravans have full comprehensive and public liability insurance. However, you are required to have comprehensive insurance for the towing vehicle named on the contract. Your personal items are not covered in the caravan insurance.

What do I need to bring?

Our caravans come fully equipped with all the internal and external amenities you will require for your time away. All you need to pack is your bedding, clothes and food.

Does it matter that I have never towed before?

Not at all. We will spend up to an hour thoroughly going over your hire with you before you leave our premises to ensure that you feel comfortable. Still not sure? We also offer tow lessons to those who aren’t so sure and would like to try it out with someone first.
